Chris O’Neal began his career in Louisiana as an elementary and middle school teacher, then became a district technology coordinator and eventually director of educational technology for the state of Louisiana. During his tenure at the department of education, his successful work with the legislature earned him status as an honorary state senator. Currently, he is a Manager of Instructional Design at the University of Virginia.

Chris provides ongoing consulting to ISTE (the International Society for Technology in Education), many state departments of education, and numerous national and international educational organizations. He has been profiled as a “Shaper of our Future” by Converge magazine, and received the “Making it Happen” award for educational technology leaders. He has recently authored a book for improving school culture through effective decision making, and is working on an app for parents of teenagers!

What we propose to do in K12 is supposed to mirror, and/or “prepare” our kids for the real world. But, what does the real world of technology look like outside the classroom? When our students leave us, what are they really doing at home, socially, and beyond graduation?
